Hi All,

First of all I am very excited about my big adventure that is nearly upon me! Non of my friends wanted to take the plunge and embark on this epic journey with me so I've had to arrange to do it solo. Exciting if a bit scary, but at least i'm going for it.

I fly into Thailand first on 6th Jan where I am doing Ultimate Thailand which is a 10 day tour, has anyone been on this yet? I think it is fairly new. I booked onto this just so I could find my feet as a solo female as I don't nomally like to do pre arranged activities but it looks quite flexible. I'll then have 25 days on my own to explore.

I fly into Sydney on 13th Feb and was just wondering if anyone will be arriving around the same time as me to meet up? I know I'd like to travel the east coast and possible down to Melbourne and I will be on a WHV, I do have cash saved but want to travel/meet people before the reality of working sets in.

You only get 30 days visa free on entry to Thailand so either get a 60 day visa or visit another country close by. Flight gets you another 30 days and bus or train, just 15 days. AirAsia is quite cheap if booked early.

Australia is quite expensive. Book your first few nights at least. An Accommodation link at the top of the page.

You are travelling well trod routes so lots and lots of other tourists about, with many on their own and first timers like you.

You could try the Travel Companions forum here.

I''m planning on getting to Sydney around the 22nd Jan. Would be great to meet up there. How long do you plan on staying in Sydney?

Hey Megan,

Sorry about my late reply!

I get into Sydney 13th Feb, I will prob be sticking around for a while so will you still be there when I arrive?

Would be great to meet up too! Are you going alone? I am, excited and a little nervous :) x

I'm hoping to be in the Sydney area around that time. I'm heading over to Melbourne in October, but plan to be in Sydney for the NYE period then hopefully stay after.

Are you planning to do the full year on your WHV?

Yes I'll be doing the full year, wish I could do the 2nd but I'm too old!!

So you will be around Sydney in Feb? You will be a veteran by then so you'll have to show me the ropes ;)

Hey Simone,

Yeah I think i'll definitely still be there by then. Have you got any plans for when you arrive? Yep going alone - my friend pulled out but I thought I'll still go!

My facebook; (can chat about it on there!) x

Seems like once you're out there you might as well stay the whole year.

I'm hoping to spend some time in Sydney, so should still be there around then. I'm not sure about being a veteran, but I'll show you the ropes if you like and maybe I'll give you some tips on backpacking too if you like ;) ..........I'm sorry that was awful but you basically set it up for me and I couldn't resist.

Hey Megan

I'll add you :)

Haha Andrew! LAME!

Are you travelling East Coast at all? I really want to do Perth but not sure I'll have the time. Come on January!

In my defence.......ok there really isn't one, but I knew straight away that it was lame.

Yeah that's the plan. I'm starting in Melbourne then want to work my away around the east coast, the plan being to end up in Cairns. Perth is west coast though and I can't see me making it there....although you never know I suppose.
