Dear you all, travelers of the world,

Are planning to visit the Maldives on a budget along the comming months? This is possible, I did it, and so did many others as you can read on the web. With a few tips, your trip might be possible and I would like to accompany you. My interest is purely informational... If I cought your interest, please read more.

I am a traveler, developing a website about various questions such as hospitality, ecology, land property, conservation, charity, autenticity, aculturation, volunteering, exploration, local networks... I write articles, produce photo reports, shoot films and gather practical information to be webcast very soon for people to make informed decisions as they travel, may they be tourists or backpackers. My objectve is to creat the apropriate ground for people (visitors or visited) to meet their expectations in a touristic context and most importantly avoid catastrophies.

In the Maldives, I wish to shoot a film about possibilities to travel on a budget in the Maldives and what good would it bring. My question is the folowing : is the world free for everyone to visite, or is there such places reserved for the elite ? Maldives is famous for is paradise like nature and luxurious resorts. It is the archetipal luxe destination but does it mean that only whealthy people can enjoy it's generous nature ? Most certainly not ! And the people need this as the tourism industry is very remote to the local economy.

Durring my first trip there, visiting an old friend, I discovered Male's lifestyle, visited few inhabited island, learned about many unhabited islands where people camp, went on a fishing trip with my friends, snorkeled for the first time... I even visited two resorts. I will return in october for about a month to finish my work there and I would like to shoot the film. In that prospect, I would like to meet with one or more travelers willing to visite the Maldives on a backpack trip and interested in taking part in my project.

I can help with/take over part of the travel organisation (tips on cheap/free leisure activities and possibly free accommodation in some inhabited island guest house, advices of great picnic islands, or must go to atols). So if you planned to spend a few days/weeks, swimming in cristal clear water, sleeping in a hammac, in a confortible bed or on a sand beach, observing and fishing colorful and excellent fishes, ridding fishermen's boats and ferries, maybe sailling, mingling with islanders, exploring jungle islands, and so on, we should team up ! If we come to an agreement, I would shoot the day to day organisation and enjoyments.

Should you be interested or have any question, please reply to the post, I will be glad to ear from you. Until then : « Yolun açik olsun ! »

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

My fiance and I will be traveling to the Maldives in May. We both took a year sabbatical from work to backpack and so excited to learn more about the culture and people. We have slept in hammocks, couchsurfed with some of the most generous people on the planet, and would love to be part of this project. Please feel free to contact me if you are still looking for a partner!

All the best,
Amanda

I might add that we are also doing a side project on how food plays a role in communities, so definitely looking forward to an opportunity to meet some of the locals and get a different perspective.

Hello every one, thank you for your many replies.
I haven't returned to the Maldives yet and I put my project on hold. I still plan to but I am not sure I will be able to go this year.
But that does not mean you can't!
If you have questions or want advices, I can help you out,
Send me a message via travelerspoint.
Take care!
