Can anyone give me an estimate of how much it would cost to go by bus or train from bangkok to bali? I'm planing on visiting vietnam, cambodia, laos, malaysia and maybe other places on the way. would it be cheaper to take planes?I'm looking for the cheapest way possible.
Im doing a trip starting July: Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore-Bali and having looked at the flight prices on air asia ect we have decided to mix and match with planes, trains and buses. The flights around there are so unbelievably cheap, it saves so much time so we have decided to use these a lot, especially around Thailand. There is incredibly cheap flights Bangkok-Chiang Mai which saves time getting up there on bus or train! Friends have told me however that train travel around Malaysia is beautiful so we are hoping to travel mostly this way once there! As for Bali, we found some great cheap flights there from KL which are going via Jakarta. Theres also a lot of discount routes with air asia from KL to loads of different places so if you could use that as a kind of base you could probably get around quite cheaply! When are you heading out there?
Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how much it will cost you? I'm not leaving until december, but i'm trying to figure out my budget. I'm hoping 2000$-2500$canadian will be enough for everything (except plane fare there) if i'm really cheap.
i forgot to mention i'll be there for 3 months
that sounds like you'll have plenty of money. im heading out to south east asia in august and have a rough budget of £500 per month which i expect to be more than enough. especially in laos and cambodia where i reckon i'll be spending nearer to £300 per month.
as for getting to bali you should definitely consider air asia. return flights to bali from KL are about £50 if you book them far in advance. or you could consider a one way flight from KL to Jakarta, visit Borobudur, then get buses and a ferry to Bali. from Bali you can fly with air asia back to KL. each flight would be around £20-25, and the ferry is peanuts. getting to bali is possible without flying. take a train or bus to singapore, hop on a ferry to sumatra, travel overland, ferry to java, overland, ferry to bali. this would be a great trip but bear in mind visas only last two months, and going to bali this way wold be time-consuming compared to a flight or two. but it would be a kick-ass trip!!
have a look on www.airasia.com and see for yourself how cheap their flights are.
have a great trip
also as youre travelling for three months it would definitely make sense to fly to bali and spend a couple of weeks there. then you have more time for places like vietnam, laos and cambodia. i'll be out there (somewhere??) myself in december if you fancied meeting up?
