I'm thinking of going to Laos just before and during tet, what do you think? Any advice?

Thanks everyone :-)

I agree with the post above about transport. We really struggled to book trains in and out of places for over a week before and after tet, forcing us to take less desirable bus options or stay put. I'd suggest avoiding it. We also did Laos before Vietnam, I'd highly recommend that! We made our way from Vientiane to Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang before flying from there into Hanoi (there is also a cheaper bus option but it is long and I get bus sick so we decided to fly instead.
Don't stress too much about deciding on plans, South East Asia is pretty easy to travel around without plans or bookings and it's more fun and less stressful if you can be more flexible :)

Hi Laura,
Tet is the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam, this is the time that people break after a year of employment, most of the time they have for their family. Will be a great experience if you go to Vietnam in the period before Tet, you will feel the excitement, the excitement of the last day in year, visit the Tet market and learn the local culture. Some difficulties in circulation at the moment, but if you want to get your perfect trip to through a tour company in Vietnam to seek their advice.

Hi,
Don't worry !
It is going to be difficult about transport at that time but If you booked already it is no problem.
Tet holiday is the chance to explore customs in Vietnam, enjoy traditional food in Tet,... Decoration is more beautiful in many places.
Kindly,
