I've said my opinion on same-sex "marriages" and, for the sake of peace, will not comment any further.

I am honestly curios James. I seem to hear more reasoning for approval of same-sex marriage, I would really like to hear more of the other side. I know there are relgious reasons in some cases, does it go further than that?

This is open to anyone really, and if no one wants to reply here, my inbox is empty :)

Brendan, I agree with you when you say that people should be open to discuss most issues, and I like your point about talking to your grandmother about the weather.

It's just that some issues are quite sensitive, and some people can take offence more easily than others. I'm not one of those people, and anyone can pretty well throw anything at me; I'm not really bothered.

However there are some people who feel that the tone of this forum has changed recently (don't know who, don't know why), therefore I feel that perhaps this is not the place to elaborate on my thoughts about this issue.

I don't care who wants to marry who. When it comes to surnames though, the decision possibly comes more to the forefront when a child is born or brought into the relationship. Which name would the child be likely to get?

The Chinese don't change names at marriage as it is. Their surnames come first. "John Smith" would be "Smith John" in China

I like it when partners keep their original names or make a new one altogether.

We don't change our surnames here in Iceland in marriage. For example, my surname is Haraldsdóttir, which just means daughter of Haraldur. We don't stop being our parents son/daughter though we marry.
