Travel Forums Travel Gear Best touring bike?

I'm going to be doing a bike tour of every U.S. state except Hawaii and Alaska. I'll be taking my time and enjoying the scenery, but never staying in one place for too long. I currently have a Trek 4100, but am looking to upgrade it. What's a good touring bike for a reasonable price? I want a good value, not just put a lot of money into something I really don't need. I'm a minimalist, so I prefer to not waste money whenever possible. I don't mind waiting for a good sale.

I'm going to be putting thousands of miles on the bike and going through a lot of different terrain. I'm going to have to have a tent and all that, so it needs to be able to carry gear well. I can always replace the seat or find a good cover.

As many good ones that you can list would help, honestly. I'm not starting until March, so I have plenty of time to keep an eye out in case one goes on sale. Any good bicycle online shops would help too. Will need spare parts and gear as well.

As I mentioned on your other post there's an absolute avalanche of great advice for bike touring on the Internet, it's not an exotic endeavour, countless people do it so it's very easy to research and do properly.

Put, "best touring bicycle" into Google and you'll find everything you need, direct from the pros.

Cheers,
Terry

There's quite a few people that have posted their long-term cycling blogs on Travellerspoint. You might like to get in touch with brendagerber07 about her recent cross-country trip.

John and Jane G might also have some good gear tips from their trip.
