We are travelling to Melbourne on 10th Jan 2014 (we are having a week in Hong Kong so will arrive in Melbourne on the 17th Jan) We have WHV visas sorted and a return flight from Brisbane to London booked for 10th August 2013. Now we need to book a few nights in a hostle/cheap hotel in Melbourne so we get ourselves sorted before decided where abouts to visit and see! Any suggestions of places that are cheap, central?
We are planning to work wherever we can (i do bar work and admin in england and sam is a web developer) but has anyone got a clue how much money we might need to travel around for a bit before we have to work? maybe for 2 months with out earning?
I appreciate any advice you have!!!!

Australia is an expensive country, particularly for accommodation. There is a link for Accommodation at the top of the page that will give you some idea.
Shared rooms aren't too badly priced though with two of you, you can get a private room for nearly the same price sometimes.
Type: Melbourne employment agency
into a search engine and possibly you can line up some work for when you arrive out there.
Be prepared to take any work till you can get a better job lined up.
For cheap and central accommodation, try Nomads, Elephant, or Kings Street Backpackers. There are also plenty of other options on the outer edges of the CBD.
I think previous posts here have suggested a daily budget for individuals in Australia around the $75 mark, just add as comfort and number of travellers requires. Hope that helps work out your budget.
