Hi

A friend and I have managed to book our flights to Vietnam in time with Typhoon Haiyan.. perfect!

We are flying into Hanoi arriving morning of Tuesday 12th Nov, as it missed Hanoi and instead made landfall at Halong Bay we've decided to stick to our original route.. but we did hope to visit Halong bay for a day trip. Does anyone know what the extent of the damage caused I yet as we can't seem to find it on the news and have limited wifi.. we want to know whether it would be best to miss this out?! Any help/advice would be much appreciated!!

I think it's best you move on Chi Minh city, for a few days to explore: the Mekong Delta, Cu Chi Tunnel, Phu Quoc Island or Dalat, etc. Then you can return to Halong after ensuring no disruption storm and was clean.

Looks like a minimum amount of damage in Halong City, but the attraction here are the junk cruises and not this town
