Advice on Africa anyone?

Travel Forums Introductions Advice on Africa anyone?

Hi all,

I'm new to travellerspoint though certainly not new to giving and taking travel advice. I took a bit of a hiatus from travelling to finish my degree. (Stayed back home in Canada for almost a year and a half) and I have now ventured back onto the road.

Started with Europe, am now in India and am dying to get to Africa which I believe will probably be sometime around January. In India I'm totally lost, but not really concerned about it, although if there's anything that you think I can't miss, I would love to know about it.

Truly I'm seeking information regarding Africa, I'm looking at Sub-saharan and really interested in Madagascar. If anyone has info on getting to and from Madagascar from the mainland that would be great, as information seems to be hit-and-miss online regarding this... also any tips for sub-saharan African would be greatly appreciated.

Oh... I guess it's useful to know that I'm very interested in volunteering, learning new languages (can speak english, french, spanish, broken portuguese and pieces of german, indonesian and malagasy) and staying for a while in one location to become fully immersed in a given culture.

Kind Regards,

Hi Jonny,

Love the immersive travel philosophy

Unfortunately I can't give any advice on Africa but just wanted to say welcome! Also looking forward to reading your input on volunteering and embracing new cultures.

Happy travelling!

Hi Kellie,

Thanks a lot, and I will certainly do my best to impart any sort of wisdom that I may have hiding deep inside me :) ... Though I'm not entirely sure there's much to find down there

Happy roads,

Hi Jonny!
How are you?

A trip in Africa is a beautiful thing! :-)
I am Italian and I am living in South Africa, at a Lion and Black rhino volunteer monitoring programme; it is not Madagascar but maybe it is something that you look for anyway? :-):)

I will certainly take it into the highest consideration. I wrote you an email for further discussion
