Hi,

I used Kumuka in Africa although I have a very mixed opinion of them! Basically, I did a seven week tour, 4 weeks with one group leader and three with another. The first was hopeless, the second was ace! It might be a different story in Asia but in Africa they franchise the trucks out and so Kumuka dont actually have that much say in the way that the tour in operating.

I have booked with them again, but mainly because I got a 3 week tour for £99! Don't pay the price in the brochure. They are always offering some kind of discount! If you can afford to book last minute you can get a good deal off of the late deal section on the website.

Hope this helps, Amy

Greetings,

I went on a 3 week run with Kumuka in 1999 through southern Africa. I would not recommend using them again. They did contract out their tours to locals which in turn over filled the truck. Where you are planning on going, Thailand through Malaysia to Singapore is a very safe area and easy tog et around in. I'd recommend doing it on your own. I did and had no problems.

Yes, as cdntrvl said, I would also recommend doing it on your own. I started planning my Asia trip to go on my own (but a friend decided to tag along with me at the end), and I was apprehensive at first. After doing extensive research, I am very happy I will be backpacking it the whole way. You will have no troubles finding anything or other people traveling the same way you are.
