I've dreamed of going to the Big Island for years...no more excuses.
What can anyone tell me about anything in both Hilo and Kona?
I'm interested to know about:
- Best areas of both places to stay in
- Best hotels (On/close to beach, no hostels, no boutique hotels, not a dump...I'm treating myself)
- Best things to see and do
- Places to eat
- Tours (if they're awesome)
- Any other awesome tips you can give
I'm not new to travel but I definitely still like my comforts in this situation and Hawaii as a whole is not new to me. I've been going to Honolulu 1-2 times a year for MANY years. Not so much interested in museums or cultural centers...I'm well aware of the culture and history. I'm more of a beach bum by day and find a nice little bar for a few at night person.
Volcanoes NP is top of the list as is seeing a black sand beach. Debating a shark diving tour as well.
I'll be on the island for up to a couple weeks in early March so I had planned on flying to Hilo (unless Kona is incredible) as I have a one way to Honolulu booked for mid-January and renting a car as needed, checking there out, but regardless end in Kona and fly home from there.
Help a fellow traveler out here please!
