Hi Nat, driving to Bolivia seems a good idea because of the entire experience and the landscapes you'll be seeing, but I think it's best to travel by plane and then by bus or rented car in Bolivia. It may turn out to be tiring and risk-taking.

I would recommend getting a really good machette and blazing your way through the Darien. It'd be a wild adventure. I'll help if you go that route. ;)

Have you considered shipping from the US and starting your trip in Colombia or elsewhere in SA? I have driven to Panama.. then picked up on the other side via the US. It's a pretty good idea if you just want to get to SA. It's pretty cheap to ship RO RO from the US if the vehicle isn't too big.
