Sorry about those rude people. It just shows that you can have had the luxury of travel and still be narrow minded.

I heard an interesting show the other day that talked about how Facebook can lead to people being more depressed for just the reason you say. I've been traveling for some years now and have learnt to keep most of it to myself, as it does seem to annoy friends who aren't so lucky.

You are still young, people want everything NOW, these days. Maybe in a few years you will be able to travel.

I don't post much in the way of travel stuff on Facebook. Partially for the reason you say, because I know that it serves little other purpose than to induce envy.

But on Travellerspoint, I'm surrounded by people who like to travel, so there's no hesitation. I think that's one of the appeals of an online group that's specifically interested in travel.

I am ok with that, because of these the photos, I can see what exactly these places like. in addition, I can get some advice from these friends if I have the chance to visit these places

I know what you are saying, FB can be a bit of a bragging platform for people. For that reason I post on my Travellerspoint blog and photos on Shutterfly, with Twitter being used to lead people to these.

FB releases Dopamine in people similar to certain drugs and people get a rush from all the attention they receive on there with their posts. I try to use my posts from traveling to inform and perhaps earn a dollar or two from a couple of good photos.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the kind reply. I'm not so young. I will be turning 29 in a couple of months. I have relatives who are several years younger than me who have traveled a lot especially overseas. I sometimes feel embarrased to be around them. Years before, social network sites came about, I used to feel envy when my relatives would travel and then come back and talk about their trips and show pictures. When I was 15 back in 2000, my uncle and his family went to Alaska to visit his daughter who was living there because her husband was in the Air Force. I felt really jealous when he was showing us photo albums of the trip. I was really jealous because his granddaughters were 12 and 7 and they had been gone on other trips. Those two granddaughters are 25 and 20. One of them recently went to Korea and in addition to the overseas trips, they do a lot of domestic trips and they go to major concerts and pro sporting events. I've never been to a concert or a pro sporting event. The reason I don't hide them on Facebook or instagram is because they don't always talk about their trips. At times I feel like a loser because I'm almost 30 and I haven't done any exciting things.
