Hi, my girlfriend and I have our flights booked to sri lanka for 3 weeks at the end of January. 3 years ago we returned home from our 9 month trip to SEA, Aus and NZ, and hadnt had an holiday since. We originally planned on a trip to India but decided against it in favor of sri lanka! (for now at least).
Anyway I am just after opinions and suggestions for our itinerary! As this is our first holiday in 3 years we are planning on a fair bit of beach time, about 10 day's maybe more. My dilemma is do we do the hill country and golden triangle first and rush through in 10 or less days before making our way to the beaches? Or do we head south from Colombo to the beaches and see how much time we have left once we're all beached out to do whatever we have time for in the hills?
I guess my worry is getting to the beaches after the hill country and thinking at the end of our holiday that we didn't leave enough time for the beach!
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. We don't want to miss the hill country but if some of the temple/ancient ruins areas are similar to those we already visited in Cambodia and Thailand etc would you skip them in favor of other areas?
