I'll admit, as an American who does want to travel, we Americans do not travel and gleaning information from those who have gone before me is tough to say the least. That being said, it's nice to know what you guys think of us and now I know what to expect when overseas ;P Joking of course! I wish we did have more of a travel culture, in some respects, the stereotypes about how we think 'we're the best' are a bit true, but those folks, as with most stereotypes are generally the under educated and over indoctrinated. Here's to my Australian W&HV, I leave in two weeks!

You're right, it is a generalization and Ive met some fantastic American travelers.

You might find it interesting to read Mark Twain and some of his travel books. The Innocents Abroad, published in 1869 is a hysterical chronicle of Twains travels through Europe and the Holy Land where even he mocks some of his own countymans stupidity while traveling.

Some of the most interesting/hip/educated travellers I've ever met are Americans in Cuba. All tourist travel to Cuba is technically illegal so the Americans that do go there - and there are LOTS of them - are a really cool bunch.

Terry

No Dodger, I'm not wrong.

It's illegal for any American to travel to Cuba as a tourist. Period. In fact it's illegal for anyone even residing in the US to visit Cub as a tourist no matter what their citizenship.

They must travel under license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control. There are many ways to accomplish this legal travel from participating on sanctioned people-to-people tours, to family visits, etc.

If you'd like a detailed explanation covering all the legalities for Americans visiting Cuba then let me know and I'll post it for you. It's not complicated.

Cheers,
Terry

Maybe you should be more clear when you make posts, because this is what you actually said.

Yes, you are right of course! My English is a struggle. I only used the word "Americans" twice in the two sentences I wrote, I should have used it three times! I'm a dummy!
