I have a trip planned in May to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Phuket. Have any women travellers gone to these cities alone? Has anyone had any problems in these areas. Are they generally safe?

WHat about after the tsunami? Should I be concerned?

Generally, SE Asia is safe for alone female travellers. Tsunami? It's okay here. Just be sure do not talk with someone you feel uneasy... tourism information centres are available (i mean in main cities and towns but not villages); Don't take the narrow streets and find some companions while going out at nights.

I think Singapore would be very safe; their security is among the best in the world.

Lee

Southeast Asia was easy for me, I travelled through Thailand and Cambodia by myself, met up with another girl and travelled around. No probs.

Malaysia... I found more challenging to say the least. Mostly because there was a bit more hostility to Western women (in my own, personal experience). Again, this may not be the case for everyone, but it happened to me the three trips I made there - just cover up a bit more (it is a muslim majority country) and try to be respectful. But it's not as if your PERSONAL safety is at stake - just don't wander down any dark alleys by yourself.

Singapore is very, very, very safe.
