Keep Britain Tidy survey analised 12 000 places in the UK and found the London is the most dirty.

Comparing to the previous year there is a rise in fast food litter - dumped drink cans (up by 34 per cent), dropped snack packaging (plus 18 percent) and sweet wrappers (up by 19 per cent). Pavements are sticky with chuwing gum and cigarettes buts are all over.

That doesn't sound good for the tourist industry - visitors will just go to more friendly and higenic places.

You can't really blame Lee though, from your profile page you wouldn't get any wiser.... on that note, you do know i am sure that those links won't do any good in terms of search engine rankings and stuff like that don't you? I think personally you'd get a lot further with a less spammy looking profile

If London is so dirty, it may be because it's impossible to find any #&%#% garbage cans anywhere. One gets tired of lugging an empty pop can and a chocolate wrapper around Westminster Abbey and through the Underground and down around Parliament...

What's up with that, anyway?

Tway hi

There are no bins around because of security resaons

Reason for the lack of rubbish bins dates back to the 70's when the IRA was bombing quite heavily in and around London and England. My Dad used to live in London from the late 50's-early 70's and said that London used to be prestine (can you believe it!!) save the soot rampant in the air. The Tube has tried to make an effort by having clear rubbish bags in many of the platforms, but since the Madrid bombing efforts to increase bins has been curtailed.

I'd heard the reason that bins were removed had to do with bombing, but they have to expect people will put their trash somewhere! I must have looked like a poor, bewildered tourist carrying my garbage around in a daze, muttering "but, but, but..."

I doubt tourists will care much. To most, London is still as appealing dirty as it is clean :) I'm not sure the last time I've heard someone say they don't want to go to London because there is too much rubbish

Still, it's not nice, particularly in parks. Most parks seemed ok to me though when I was there last year.
