Hi good people of TP,
I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce you to Sander, a new addition to the Travellerspoint Team.
Sander has joined TP as a developer and will be helping us continually improve the site.
He is Dutch (total coincidence, honest!), a keen photographer and a very avid traveller. Currently, he is living just down the street from me in Melbourne while on a Working Holiday Visa. Anyway, I'll let Sander fill you in on any other questions regarding his travels - he's in much better position to do that than me
So, I'd like you all to put your hands together and give Sander a nice warm welcome!!
I know I've "bumped into you" occasionally on various threads.
Congratulations on your new position!
Oh yeah, the chocolates! How could I forget.. Here you are Sander
- smiles broadly at the chocolates*
That's one of the things I really like about this place - chockful of useful information, and then having random quirky things like this. (Cupcake: if I ever happen to visit your part of the USA, I'll come personally deliver a chocolate bar, and that's a promise.) :P
Anyway, yes, *bows and frantically searches for his acceptance speech*
I'd like to thank my dog, my goldfish, and... oh no, wrong one... *shuffles papers around*
But yeah, I guess some background on me might be good - I've been travelling for the past 18 months now, doing the odd web development project along the way (got working holiday visas for New Zealand and Australia just before I left home) to help pay for it all. Sometimes it's useful to be highly qualified for work where short-term projects are the norm.
I know when Peter first contacted me about possibly doing some work on this site, I had a look and found myself thinking, "damn, I wish I'd known about this place before I started travelling." I'm one of those solo-travellers, just making it all up as I go along. Admittedly, I've been doing pretty okay at this (still alive after 18 months!) but still... having had a resource such as all of you to help me get started would've alleviated a lot of worries early on. But oh well, at least I now can share some of my hard-won knowledge with others, and there are still plenty of places that I haven't been to and will want to quiz you all about.
Meanwhile, of course, I'm also doing actual programming work here on the site. I won't say anything about what's coming, but Peter's cooked up some pretty nifty stuff that I'm now helping to work the final kinks out. I want to bet you'll all love it.
I guess that's enough from me for now. But if you have any questions, just holler.
Yay, a new member to the team! Welcome aboard Sander
Now, it's Friday afternoon and nearly 4 pm, so I'm clocking out of work and letting Sander take over while I head to the pub
Hi Sander! Welcome to the family! Will there be a Christening?
By the way, if you hear rumours about possible attacks by toasters, hoses, and various other household amenities, simply duck and cover. It's just Pardus requesting his daily dose of whop-a**. You'll get used to it.
(Cupcake: if I ever happen to visit your part of the USA, I'll come personally deliver a chocolate bar, and that's a promise.)
Sander is my new best friend
Welcome aboard! Can't wait to see the new nifty things you guys have cooked up for us all!
(Ooh - that frying pan just missed your nose...)
Godd to have you here!
(Pete and Sam will explain our split personality.)
