Good luck with only visiting countries that conform to your particular narrow set of morals. That's a hefty set of blinders that you're wearing now... try not to trip...

Isn't that why we travel to learn of others and their customs and when asked share our viewpoints and ideas. I am not saying you are to go to Japan and preach to them your feelings, but boycotting them will not change the process. I lived and worked in Japan for a couple of years, and just like anyplace, there are good and bad things there.

My opinion is you should go and see first-hand how the people are and learn their reasons for things and educate yourself from the inside. Just my musings on this.

Hi guys, thanks for your most recent posts and advice, some not so constructive but appreciated anyway.
The only thing that I find difficult to get my head around is that I feel that most of the population of Japan ARE against the Taiji dolphin slaughters. I think that some people are very bravely doing something about it and joining in with the protests, and those that are not are might find it too difficult and not worth the risk of their families being threatened etc. It must be very difficult for them. I know if I lived in a country that was controlled in this way, I’d be frustrated, therefore I think I might appreciate foreign intervention to help make a change. Maybe, if the tourist economy dropped the Prime Minister might consider banning the killings, after all, they are only doing it to capture the dolphins for tourists entertainment anyway! The slaughtering just comes as an afterthought. Shocking that the meat is poisonous to a large number of humans but that’s a different matter.
However you are correct, maybe I should go to Japan and actually find out if this is how the people feel about it. I could be wrong in thinking most people are against it. Not entirely sure id enjoy the tourist sights and all that Japan has to offer though knowing this is going on in the same country. Perhaps ill wait for the true Japanese adventure if and when they stop the killings. Please note this is my personal thoughts on the matter, I am not advertising boycotting Japan. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas so I can remain open minded and do the right thing!
