I'm going to Thailand in May! I'm traveling around Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and then some of Thailand with a group. Before this I'll be in Thailand for four days on my own and afterwards I'll be there for a month on my own. I've been told that visiting some of the Thai Islands is amazing. Is there anywhere in particular that is recommended in either the Islands or the Thailand mainland itself? Is traveling within Thailand easy? Or should I book transport in advance if say I decided I wanted to visit one of the Islands? I'm totally clueless! All suggestions are welcome!
Thanks so much!
Travelling around Thailand is easy. You can book with a travel agent or do it yourself. High season ends April so May should be quieter (though hot and humid), but still busy. You can book buses and trains as you go so no need to pre-book them. For best prices, flights need to be booked early.
It helps to book some accommodation before you go instead of dragging luggage around when there and missing out on bargain places.
Visa and visa waiver are for 30 days and not a month.
A good site on where to go in Thailand:
Which also has links to Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. You need to sort out a visa for Vietnam.
Also take along some passport photos for visa purposes. It doesn't hurt to have a photostat of the information page of your passport in case of loss, and you should carry your passport at all times (and not just a copy). Also you should still have six months validity on your passport on the day you fly home.
I'm travelling round Thailand in May too
I'm going to be alone
I've got pretty much the same agenda as you and IM still doing my research
Are you looking for a travel buddy at all
Or if you want to meet up
I'm so sorry I'm only just replying! Thank you for the info.
Skye it would be great to meet up, I'd love a travel buddy! When are you there exactly and for how long?
