I know there are a lot of remedys out there..and what works for one doesn't work for another...But ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
(as long as I don't have to dance naked under a full moon with banana peels on my head, I am game to try anything)
I get bad tension headaches (knock on wood I don't have one now!), and I find peppermint oil on the temples works a little. No medication has ever done the trick, but the peppermint tingles and, in theory, the brain can only process one sensation at a time. So - relief by distraction.
A full glass, or two, of cool water (not ice cold). Almost all headaches are a result of dehydration. The two glasses will help right away, after that have a glass every hour or two!
It is estimated that chronic dehydration affects at least 75% of the World's population and in over 37% of us the thirst mechanism is so weak it is frequently mistaken for hunger
Migraine headache is a sign of water need by the brain and the eyes. It will totally clear up if dehydration is prevented from establishing in the body. The type of dehydration that causes migraine might eventually cause inflammation of the back of the eye and possibly loss of eye sight.
Unfortuantely for me, its water, lie down dark and do nothing. Best i've amanged to find
Migraines can be trigered by dehydration by can be also triggered by tyramine, which is found in dark red wines and chocolate (among other foods) - sorry CC!
I get cluster headaches - a form of migraine. Ice packs arond the back of the neck will help release the tension that builds from "fighting" the headache. Ibuprofen taken with a cup of coffee - caffeine increases the effectiveness of the NSAID. With the ice on your neck, 30 minutes of darkness and absolute quiet (yeah, that's easy - not) will help relax the mucles, constrict the blood flow to the brain and decrease the pressure within the blood vessels - which is what causes the migraine initially. (The pain is created by an almost instantaneous increase of blod flow to the brain, putting pressure against the vessels themselves and the brain/surrounding nerves.) Light and noise stimulate the brain, keeping the blood flow high. Eliminating those factors allow the brain to stop reacting to stimuli, which further decreases the pressure.
Hope this helps some...
Mugraunes can be familial (as is my case) or triggered by all sorts of odd things. (MSG, aromas, lights, etc.) I have tried EVERYTHING! Well, I haven't tried the dancing naked under a full moon with banana peels on my head...but I just might! Thank you all for the suggestions! Odd how when your feeling bad, you will give anything a go
