travel with criminal conviction ESTA approved

Travel Forums North America travel with criminal conviction ESTA approved

My boyfriend was convicted of glassing someone and sentenced to 2 years prison serving one year. this was about 4 years ago that he was in prison for the incident, he was released in 2010.

He now wants to travel to north America. He has applied for an esta and for the question that asks if you have any criminal convictions he has lied and ticked no and the ESTA has been approved. I'm assuming they don't do a background check at the time of approving the ESTA? Does this mean he is in the clear now or will immigration in the states still possibly pick up on his criminal record & send him home?

There is no certain answer. It's impossible to predict.

If he presents himself very well to US CBP chances are very high he'll sail right through and be in the clear, no big deal. But nothing is 100%.

Good luck.

Terry

Quoting ceeess

....& send him home?

Does anyone know - Is 'sent home' what happens, or can one expect a longer stay in the US than expected?

There have been a couple of horror stories re Visa infractions in the US lately. The Indian diplomat was one & another I cannot bring to mind at present.
