Carcassonne is a fortified town in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. The UNESCO World Heritage listed fortress was restored in 1853 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.

Don't forget the mountains! If you go to the Pyrénées, it'll be easy to cross the boder to Spain!! And if you go in the Alpes....well lots of choices (Italy, Switzerland... ) And I would definitly recomend visiting Carcassonne : One of the biggest (if not THE biggest)and well concerved medieval castel in Europe ...
