Magnetic Island is an island in the Great Barrier Reef, 10 kilometres off the coast of Queensland near Townsville. It has become popular as a holiday destination with lots of hotels and resorts catering to visitors. A 27 km² national park has some nice walking tracks and lots of wildlife to explore.

After 5 hours or so on the Greyhound bus from Cairns, I jumped off in Townsville and got the ferry over to Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island. The hostel had a pool and was right ON the beach, so it was 3 days of typical "sydenferie" Ha Ha ...
