Introduction
Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey, is a town in the state of Kerala in southern India. It was described by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India from 1899 until 1905, as the Venice of the East for its picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons. A visit to Alappuzha is not complete without a ride on a houseboat (kettuvallam) through the backwaters of the town.
