Albany is a port city in the extreme southwest of Australia, in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. The city has approximately 34,000 inhabitants, making it the 6th largest in the state.

Albany has a mild Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny and dry summers and mild but wetter winters. Summers is from December to March with average highs of around 22-23 °C and nights around 14-15 °C. Occasionally, temperatures can be much higher though, when winds blow directly from the desert, rising the temperatures up to 40 °C or even a bit more. Winters from June to August are still mild with highs of around 16 °C and lows of around 8-9 °C. The lowest ever was even just above zero. About 2/3 of the average annual 930 mm of rain falls from May to September with July being the wettest month at almost 150 mm.

You can reach Albany from Perth, about 400 kilometres north, by using the Albany Highway or Highway 1, the latter being the more scenic drive.

Australia Post is the government's postal service. Most reasonably sizable townssuburbs will have at least one post office. A standard letter or postcard sent within Australia will cost $0.55. Internationally, it costs $1.40 to send postcards anywhere in the world. Letters cost $1.45 to send within the Asia Pacific region and $2.10 to anywhere else in the world. [1]. It is also possible to send things as parcels or by express mail.
