Travel Guide Africa South Africa Western Cape Beaufort West
Situated in the Central Karoo, Beaufort West is a quiet town of around 37,000 inhabitants. Founded in 1818, the town is now the centre of an agricultural district providing premium herbs and vegetables nationally.
The sight of prime interest in the area has to be the Karoo National Park. An isolated area of big skies and sparse beauty, it's home to many desert mammals, the Black Eagle, various species of tortoise, and the Black Rhino.
Situated on the N1, it's a 5-hour drive from Cape Town, or a full days drive from Johannesburg.
