Introduction

A quick scan of Google does not suggest any substantial damage here from the 2009 earthquake. Bominaco seems to have suffered enough over time from previous earthquakes and its churches had to be substantially restored late in the 18th century. Yes, that's an S at the end of 'churches'. This tiny village has two of them!

Sights and Activities

  • The castle - some hundred feet above the villages. A dream of a view.
  • Santa Maria church - if this 11th century church were the only one in Bominaco it would be well worth the journey to see it. It is one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture in the province.

  • Oratorio di San Pellegrino - if this were in Umbria or, certainly, Tuscany you would have to queue for ages to get in - as it is you have a fair chance of having the place to yourself. Dating back to Charlemagne, this is a real gem. Photography of its glorious interior is banned (rightly but heart-breakingly!) but PLEASE see this and this. It might take a while to see the latter but it's well worth it!
  • The village - this will only take a few minutes but it's worth seeing.
