Bornholm is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea located to the east of the rest of Denmark, the south of Sweden, and the north of Poland. About 42,000 people live on the island. The whole island is a Danish municipality.




  • Rønne is the largest town on the island




Bornholm has one of the mildest climate of Scandinavia with average high temperatures ranging from around 2 °C in January to around 20 °C in July and August. Nights average between -2 °C and 13 °C respectively. The average annual precipitation is just around 600 mm with summer and autumn being slightly wetter than winter and spring.



Getting There

By Plane

Borholm Airport offers flights to/from Copenhagen. There are also seasonal (charter) flights to/from Oslo, Mallorca, Antalya and Berlin.

By Boat

  • Bornholmstrafikken offers ferry connections to and from Koge in Denmark. They also go to Sassnitz in Germany.
  • [|Borholm Faergen]] travels on the routes to Ystad and Sassnitz from Rønne.
  • Bornholm Express travels in summer only from Allinge-Sandvig to Simrishamn in Sweden.
  • Pol Ferries travels to/from Swinoujscie in Poland.
  • Kolobrzeg travels to Kołobrzeg from Neksø and back, from April to October only. Also during this time, Pol Ferries travels to Sassnitz in Germany.
  • Scandlines between Sassnitz and Ronne.



Getting Around

By Bike

The easiest way to explore Bornholm is by bike as distances rarely exceed 35 kilometres. There are excellent biking facilities all over Bornholm. It is easy to rent a bike at Bornholm an the charge varies from place to place but about €10 for a day and €20 for a whole week.

By Car

You can bring your car on one of the ferries (see above) or rent a car from several places.

By Bus

There are 9 bus lines offering connections between towns and attractions.
