Introduction

Chiang Rai Province is the northernmost province of Thailand, bordering Myanmar and Laos as well as the Thai provinces of Phayao, Lampang and Chiang Mai. The capital is Chiang Rai.

Chiang Rai is a centre of drug smuggling, since it's a part of the Golden Triangle, a region known for its opium production at the border of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.

Getting There

By Plane

Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI) is the main gateway to the city. Why it's called an international airport, is not entirely sure though, as currently there are only flights to/from Chiang Mai and Bangkok.
