Not renowned as a tourist destination, Derby advertises itself as 'The birthplace of the Industrial Revolution'. A city of around 240,000 inhabitants and slap-bang in the middle of England, there are a few sights in Derby that might warrant a stop here.
East Midlands Airport (EMA) is the main gateway, located about 25 kilometres from Derby. Ryanair flies to Alicante, Belfast, Bergerac, Berlin, Budapest, Bydgoszcz, Carcassonne, Dinard, Dublin, Faro, Girona (city)|Girona]], Granada, Ibiza, Knock, Krakow, Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Limoges, Lodz, Málaga, Marrakech, Milan, Murcia, Nantes, Palma de Mallorca, Pisa, Reus (Barcelona), Riga, Rimini, Rome, Rzeszów, Tenerife-South, Turin, Valencia and Wroclaw.
Many more budget airlines and charter airlines fly to places throughout Europe, including Bmibaby, Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomson Airways.
Direct trains to destinations including London and Manchester.
Derby is served by National Express coach services. There are also cheap direct services to London with Megabus.
