Travel Guide South America Chile Easter Island Easter Island Airport
Easter Island Airport, officially called Mataveri International Airport, serves as the main (and only for almost all travellers in fact) gateway to the island. The landing strip of the airport was lengthened in 1986 by NASA to make it possible, in case of emergency, for the Space Shuttle to land at Rapa Nui. Therefore today the airstrip is covering the whole width of the island.
