In the mountains above Werfen lies the ice cave of Eisriesenwelt The caves are open for the public between May and early October. The guided tour takes just over an hour. Remember that you are visiting an ice cave, so bring appropriate clothing, also keep in mind that you will have to master around 700 steps up, and 700 down again. During the visit tour that takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, you will be climbing a total of 134 metres or 700 steps. During the tour there are stops around every 5 minutes, for you to catch your breath, and for the guide to explain more about the cave. The tour covers the first kilometres of the total 40 kilometres that are discovered at the moment. Only the first kilometre is covered with ice, and is the most interesting one for visitors.
The caves are opened from early May untill late October (in 2010 until 26. October)
