Introduction

Fayetteville is the county seat of Washington County, and the third largest city in Arkansas with around 75,000 people in the city itself and over 450,000 in the metropolitan area.

Fayetteville lies in the humid subtropical climate zone with influence from the humid continental climate type. July is the hottest month of the year, with an average high of 31.7 °C and an average low of 20.3 °C. Temperatures above 38 °C are rare but not uncommon, occurring on average twice a year. January is the coldest month with an average high of 6.8 °C and an average low of -4.3 °C. Highs below 0 °C occur on average thirteen times a year, with 2 nights per year dropping below -18 °C. The city's highest temperature was 43.9 °C, recorded on July 14, 1954. The lowest temperature recorded was -31.1 °C, on February 12, 1899.
