Travel Guide General Guides Languages French Phrasebook
French is a Romance language and is the main language in quite a few countries. It is the official language in France and all its overseas dependencies like French Guiana, French Polynesia and Reunion, Quebec and the Acadia region in Canada, and also in the Romandy area of Switzerland, Wallonia in Belgium and in Monaco. Other countries have French as one of their official languages or it's the main language at school, like Madagascar and many countries in the central and (north)western parts of Africa. Actually, French is spoken in more countries than any other language, although more people have other languages as their main/official language (Spanish, Chinese and English for example).
The French alphabet is made up of the 26 characters of the Latin Script:
a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z.
