Weather

Gallup has a semi-arid climate with dry, sunny and generally warm conditions, except for winters which can be pretty cold at night due to its elevation of about 2,000 metres about sea level. It's location at higher elevation means it is not extremely hot and in winter it can be cold at night and very occasionally snow is possible. Absolute highs and lows are 38 °C and -37 °C. Average highs in July, the warmest month, are around 32 °C and nights around 10 °C, while January average around 7 °C during the day and around -12 °C at night. Average annual precipitation is around 300mm, most of it falling during the wetter summer months. There is about 30 inches of snow on top of that, mostly falling from December to February.

Post

The US Postal Service is very good and well priced mail system. UPS stores can be found dotted throughout the city and will accept packages to be shipped by other carriers as well. Though you may pay a premium there, there is usually little or no line in these stores. This is a good alternative since, depending on time of day and the season, post offices can become fairly crowded. If wanting to send a letter or postcard it is best just to leave it in a blue mail box with the proper postage. There are also private postal services like FedEx, UPS and DHL.
