Hvar is one of Croatia's most popular islands to visit.

Geography

Hvar Island is located in the Adriatic Sea, off the Dalmatian Coast, three nautical miles from the mainland. The Hvar Channel separates Hvar Island from the island of Brač, the Vis Channel separates it from Vis, the Korčula Channel separates it from Korčula and the Neretva Channel separates it from the island of Pelješac. Several smaller islands can be found along the southern coast fo the island, most notably Šćedro island in the south and Paklenski Otoci in the west. The island covers 112 square miles. The main occupations are agriculture (fruit, olives, lavender) and fishing.

  • Jelsa is on the central-northern part of the island.
  • Stari Grad is the main sea port and where most visitors from Split land.
  • Sućuraj is a picturesque small town on the east cape of the island.

Getting There

By Car

You can take your car on one of the ferries to Hvar.

By Boat

Jadrolinija offers several ferry connections to Hvar from Split, Drvenik and Dubrovnik on Croatia's mainland as well as from nearby islands.

Blueline Ferries runs a service between Ancona, Italy and Hvar in summer.

SNAV connects Pescara in Italy to Hvar in summer.

Most car ferries call at the port town of Stari Grad, while some of the hydrofoils will stop at Hvar town.
