Travel Guide North America USA Western United States Arizona Kingman
Kingman is a city in the Mojave Desert in the west of Arizona, USA. It's located along the old historic Route 66 and there are lots of points of interest regarding the Mother Road. The city has around 28,000 inhabitants.
Kingman has a desert climate with dry, sunny and generally warm conditions. It's location at higher elevation though in the Mojave Desert means it is not extremely hot and in winter it can be cold at night and very occasionally snow is possible. Average highs in July, the warmest month, are around 36 °C and nights around 20 °C, while January average around 13 °C during the day and around zero at night. Average annual precipitation is around 10 inches/250mm. August is the wettest month, followed by January to March. May and June are driest.
Kingman Airport (IMG) offers flights to/from Farmington and Las Vegas with Great Lakes Airlines.
Amtrak's Southwest Chief Train operates daily services between Los Angeles and Chicago, stopping in Kingman en route.
From Kingman, several roads lead in all directions. The main I-40 runs east west through Arizona, on its way west towards California and east towards New Mexico. One of the best parts of Route 66 makes a loop northeast from Kingman towards Seligman. US Highway 68 runs northwest towards the Hoover Dam, connecting further on towards Las Vegas.

The US Postal Service is very good and well priced mail system. UPS stores can be found dotted throughout the city and will accept packages to be shipped by other carriers as well. Though you may pay a premium there, there is usually little or no line in these stores. This is a good alternative since, depending on time of day and the season, post offices can become fairly crowded. If wanting to send a letter or postcard it is best just to leave it in a blue mail box with the proper postage. There are also private postal services like FedEx, UPS and DHL.
