Luang Prabang International Airport (IATA: LPQ, ICAO: VLLB) is a small international airport located outside of Luang Prabang with regular domestic flights to Phongsaly, Vientiane and Xieng Khuang. There are also international flights to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Hanoi and Siem Reap.
For more information about other airports throughout the world, also see the list of airports.
Transport to the city can be done by minivan at a flat rate price of 50,000 kip or a slightly inflated price in Baht or USD. ATM's are located when you walk out of the Terminal, so make sure you get some local currency first. After buying a ticket you will be teamed with people going to the same part of town. The ride itself takes about 15 minutes.
For citizens of most countries a visa can be arranged at arrival in Laos. Exemptions to this rule are: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Jordan, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Mozambique, Nauru, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Syria, Swaziland, Tonga, Turkey, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The fee for the visa can be paid in US Dollar or Thai Baht, and when checking the fee for your country, add one Dollar for administration costs. Also bring 2 passport photos (although you will often find that only 1 is used.) If not yet provided by your airline during the flight or at checking, get the immigration form and fill it in prior to going to the first counter, where you hand you passport, the form and the photos. After that you can get to the second counter to pay your fee, and receive you passport back.
The airport terminal is pretty small so getting around is not hard, all signs are in Lao and English.
