Travel Guide Margaree Harbour
Margaree Harbour is a former fishing village and historic center of coastal commerce. It was planned to be a town, but as coal mining and the transport of coal, lumber and fish with coastal freighters declined by the 1950's, the village remained.
It is located at the mouth of Margaree River , on the South side , which is opposite Belle Cote on the North side. The harbour itself divides the two communities as this is where the famous Margaree River meets the Gulf of St.Lawrence. Today, the fishing boats and working wharf is at Belle Cote, on the Belle Cote Beach Road, off the Cabot Trail. The working lighthouses for the harbour are located in the Margaree Harbour village.
