Introduction

Penang International Airport (IATA: PEN, ICAO: WMKP), formerly known as Bayan Lepas International Airport, is located at the south-eastern part of the island in Bayan Lepas, 16 kilometres south of Georgetown, Penang. It is the main airport for the northern region of mainland Malaysia.

Getting there and away

By Bus

Rapid Penang is the main bus operator in Penang. Buses 401, 401A, 401E go to Georgetown, Weld Quay (for ferry to Butterworth) and Balik Pulau; each with a freqency of about 30 minutes. Fares depend on the distance travelled, and the Airport – Georgetown trip costs RM2.70 one-way (as of November 2009).

Airlines, Destinations and Terminals

The airport has only a single terminal and is a hub for AirAsia and http://www.fireflyz.com.my/|Firefly. The flag carrier, Malaysia Airlines, also flies to the airport.
