Introduction

Ravenstonedale is a very unspoilt and attractive village set in open, rolling countryside midway between the valleys of the Eden and the Lune. It's a great base for walking, and two of the Eden Valley's best eateries are located in the area.

Getting There

Ravenstondale is connected to Kirkby Stephen, Sedbergh and Kendal by a regular bus service. Check the Travelline website for details. The A685 road passes close by, allowing easy access to the M6 or A66 routes.

The Royal Mail provides postal services in the United Kingdom. The Royal Mail's store fronts are called Post Office and offer services ranging from sending letters and packages to foreign currency exchange. It's common for a post office to be incorporated into a grocery store, where there will be a small counter located at the back of the store for dealing with post related matters. Eat, Drink and Sleep

• The Black Swan. Built more in the characteristic Victorian style of the Lake District hotels than the many coaching inns of the Eden Valley, this inviting place has built a solid reputation for its food which makes good use of fresh local produce wherever possible. Rooms are well-priced for the hotel's standard (4 AA stars).
• The Fat Lamb. Two miles from Ravenstonedale, in open countryside at the foot of the Howgill Fells, the Fat Lamb is another country inn that makes a point of using local produce to prepare its tasty meals. Both a restaurant menu and bar meals are available, and there are a number of rooms to rent at a reasonable price.
