Rockhampton has a real authentic feel to it - it's a farming town and makes no apology for it. There are some attractions here, including the very attractive Rockhampton Botanic Gardens with its own mini conservation zoo, and the Rockhampton Art Gallery. Make no mistake though - the finest thing about Rockhampton is the quality of its steak.
If exploring the water of the Pacific Ocean is your thing, North Rockhampton will undoubtedly provide the experience. Snorkelling and Scuba Diving available in Rockhampton is amongst some of the best in the world.

One atmospheric and reasonably priced place to stay (and to sample the steak) is the Criterion Hotel, built in a Queensland style in 1889. If you're staying on a weekend, ask for a room that isn't above the bar!
