Ta Prohm, built between the 12th and 13th centuries, has not been completely cleared of trees and plants. There are huge fig and silk cotton trees that have grown through the temple walls. These trees create the feelings that some of the first explorers to Angkor may have had. This temple was also the location for the filming of the movie "Tomb Raider".
Ta Prohm was originally built as a Buddhist Monastery and was extremely powerful and wealthy during its peak. From Ta Prohm they had control of over 3,000 villages, vast amounts of jewels and gold and many staff members. Ta Phrom is a must see temple for any visitors to Angkor.
