Introduction

Trincomalee is a district in the eastern province of Sri Lanka, which is rich in natural resources and has a beautiful natural harbour.

There are several naturally beautiful places in the district but due to the long years of conflict in this region, these places have been left untended. While that has been a plus for the birds which seem to feel settled in the water reservoirs, tourism is totally neglected.

Weather

Trincomalee has a tropical climate, meaning hot and humid weather year round. Temperatures average around 31 degrees Celcius during the day and around 25 degrees at night. April to October is warmer compared to November to March, but temperatures can reach almost 40 degrees in nearly every month, except the coolest months. Rainfall is possible year round, but is tends to concentrate between November and January. March to July is fairly dry with some showers on just several days a month.

Mid-Range

  • Welcombe Hotel - An old hotel from the colonial era that continues to be the best in the district and currently caters to mostly NGO workers. This hotel relies on solar energy and therefore water in your shower may not be as hot as you want it to be on a rainy or cloudy day.
  • Club Oceanic - Located on the Nilaveli beach and around 20 minutes drive from the town centre, this hotel is part of the John Keells chain of hotels and therefore the standard service that you expect with medium-range chain hotels can be expected and found here. Lots of garden space and a wide beach that allows you to take walks is a plus point.
  • Green Park hotel - Closer to town and having an Indian vegetarian restaurant is one of its pluses.
