Vanimo is known as a surfing destination. It has a reputation of having the most consistent waves in Papua New Guinea. Surfing season is mid October through to late April.
At the moment vehicles are not allowed to cross the border. The road to Wewak is in a very bad condition.
Minibuses to the border leave when full. Just after the border is Skouw market where you can change money and hire a car to Jayapura, or if you travel light - a motorbike to Koya and from there a Beme (shared minibus, locally called Taxi).
Banana boats go to Aitape leaving when full from the bay west of the market, from there by 4 wheel drive pickup or banana boat to Wewak.
The best hotel might be the Vanimo Beach hotel rooms and bungalows from 425 Kina. It also has decent restaurant mains from 38 Kina.
The hotel is located at the bay east of the market close to the airport.
Internet usage among the people is relatively low. You can find internet cafes in major cities, towns and other tourist centers. Wifi coverage is still very low, but is growing.
There might be wifi in one of the surfing places in Lido, othewise you have to get a local SIM card for a slow connection.
