Travel Guide Oceania Australia Western Australia Wave Rock
Wave Rock is a granite rock near Hyden in Western Australia that is shaped remarkably like a breaking wave. The wave shape was formed some 2,700 million years ago and happened through chemical weathering while it was below the surface. It was then exposed by erosion. It is 110 metres long and 15 metres high and is just one part of the larger Hyden Rock which covers 100 hectares. There are some nice bush walks around the area.
It's not the only interesting rock formation in the area. You can also visit the Hippo's Yawn and The Humps.
The Wave Rock Weekender is a small music festival held at the Wave Rock Caravan Park each year.
Wave Rock is located about 340 kilometres to the east of Perth.
It is around 3-4 hours from Perth.
