Townsville is a small city in northern Queensland. It is adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef, making it a popular launching point for divers and those wishing to explore the reef. Magnetic Island, half of which is a National Park, is located just offshore.

Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel

Services is very good (better then a normal backpacker hostel), Location is only about 2mins walk to the CBD. Only down side is if you want to watch the news at the end of the day or sport they do not have any tv's on site at all other then that a great little hostel. ... more

Not the best hostel I've been in. Due to an old building and not that clean. Good location tho (5 minutes walking to Magnetic Island ferry terminal and the beach) and I got free parking (limited) No Wi-Fi. ... more

A strange place. It is huge and looks like it should be a buzzing backpackers' hostel but it was deathly quiet when we went, which was at a time I'd have expected a few more people to be around (December).
