Carcassonne is a fortified town in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. The UNESCO World Heritage listed fortress was restored in 1853 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.

For a small, cool place, try Carcassonne, near Montpelier. The walled city is amazing - i think it's the oldest in Europe, and the town is on the Canal du Midi, which is beautiful. Or Toulouse, the rose city, also beautiful, loads to do - music, art, museums etc.... people are really friendly, food is good ...
