Christchurch

Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island and second largest city by urban area in New Zealand. Although some argue it is the only real city on the entire South Island. Originally settled by Maori tribes around 1250 AD this area of the South Island has always had some sort of occupation since then.

Too far from City centre and the botanical gardens for my enjoyment. Clean enough and lots of space in the kitchen fridges. I liked the idea of lockers in the kitchen to keep food safe. Be warned they close reception at 7pm , not 8pm as they write on the travellerspoint site. ... more

Great location right next to the Botanic Gardens, and overall a decent - if looking a bit ramshackle - YHA hostel.

Dorset House is on the highest level of backpacker accommodation and is only let down by a distant and minimally available approach to service. The desk closes at 6.
